Sausage producers across the UK have been running special promotions and creating new products as part of this year’s UK Sausage Week celebrations. We’ve rounded up some of the activities we’ve seen across social media since the week began.

Mettrick’s Butchers school sausage competition

John Mettrick, owner of Mettrick’s Butchers in Glossop, has organised his very own sausage competition, inviting primary schools to suggest new sausage flavour combinations. Children from local schools submitted their sausage ideas, and Mettrick’s Butchers created one flavour from each school as part of the competition.

The winning sausage was the ‘Day of the Dead’ sausage submitted by children from Year 3/4 at the Duke of Norfolk Primary School. The sausage features Mexican spices, tabasco sauce and spicy rice.

As a prize, the school will receive £100, with the other participating schools receiving vouchers from Mettrick’s Butchers. Two students from each school will also be invited to a sausage masterclass at the shop!

The other sausages submitted were:

  • Padfield School – Christmas Sausage
  • St Mary’s School – Hawaiian Sausage
  • Dinting School – Kicking Katsu Sausage
  • St Andrews School – Honey Blood Sausage

Footlong Lincolnshire Sausages at the Sleaford Sausage Shop

Lincolnshire-based The Sleaford Sausage Shop said its Lincolnshire Footlong Sausages were such a hit during 2024’s UK Sausage Week that the shop has put them back in the counter for 2025!

Owner Ian Newton said that the sausages had “proved very popular” last year, with each footlong lovingly made by hand using local pork and natural skins. The shop says these are perfect for Halloween and Bonfire Night celebrations!

Bexleys Craft Butchers, local favourites of UK Sausage Week partner MCJ Casings, will be offering limited-edition sausage flavours such as Hot Honey at its stores, as well as special offers throughout the week.

Mike Hooker from Bexleys Craft Butchers in Liverpool said: “We’re thrilled to be part of UK Sausage Week again this year. It’s a great excuse to get creative with flavours and give our customers something new to try – like our new ‘Hot Honey’ sausage, which has already been a hit in tastings!

“We’re running special offers in several of our shops, including ’buy two packs and get one-free’ deals on selected varieties, and we’ve even got a few surprise flavours planned throughout the week. It’s all about celebrating great British butchery and encouraging customers to support their local shops.

“UK Sausage Week always brings a buzz to our counters – we love seeing regulars (and new faces!) getting excited about something we make fresh every day.”

MCJ Casings also spotlighted Red Bank Farm Shop in Newton-le-Willows, which has planned a home-reared Pork and Sausage Hamper giveaway to celebrate the week.

Nicola Porter from Red Bank Farm Shop said: “We’re proud to take part in UK Sausage Week and to fly the flag for local food and farming. Our butchers work hard to create high-quality sausages using meat from our own farm, hand prepared with fresh ingredients, so this week is a brilliant way to celebrate what we do.”

“To get our customers involved, we’re running a special home-reared Pork and Sausage Hamper giveaway, where customers will have the chance to win a luxury meat hamper packed with our best pork cuts and, of course, some of our signature sausages.”

“We have over 70 different flavours of sausages that we produce, we always mix it up and have different flavour sausages on offer every week. For Sausage Week, we’ve got some limited-edition Halloween flavours in the works – it’s going to be a fun week!”

Raffles and giveaways

TFM Butchers, a UK Sausage Week finalist this year, is selling raffle tickets for £5 at its Isleham shop. The lucky raffle winner will receive a hamper of its sausages, valued at over £40, with seven different varieties of sausage to be included! Flavours will range from Blue Cheese and Chilli to Red Onion and Sage, so there’s something for everyone.

We’ve also seen that Richard’s Quality Meats in Newark is conducting its own sausage giveaway, with customers in with a chance of winning 1.5kg of a sausage of their choice, plus four sirloin steaks from the shop!
