The four-year programme is aimed at people under 40 working in any department of a meat or allied trades business and is designed to give participants a broader understanding of the meat supply chain and opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills and industry networks. For employers, the programme is a “practical investment in future capability”, giving employees stronger cross-sector insight and strengthening organisations’ talent pipelines.

Covering a different product each year, the first year will be titled The Journey of a Steak and will focus on beef. The programme will include industry visits, mentoring, webinars and networking with other young professionals.

Building connections

The programme is open to people working across the sector; businesses can nominate employees to take part or individuals can apply to the course directly. WCB said the course will be particularly useful for businesses looking to provide development opportunities for early-career employees and for building connections across the wider industry.

The launch will be followed at Butchers’ Hall by the City Meat Lecture and participants signing up for the programme before 21st October can take advantage of a pre-launch offer of a 50% discount on tickets.

This year’s City Meat Lecture features as screening of the documentary World Without Cows by Alltech, and panellists at the event have now been confirmed as Alltech global vice president of ESG Tara McCarthy and European strategic sourcing director at FMG Global Nicolas Pampliega.

More details of the Young Meat Professionals programme, including a short introductory video and application forms, can be found on the WCB website.
