Welsh red meat promotion agency Hybu Cig Cymru will participate in PRODEXPO, the largest annual specialised food and drink exhibition in Russia and Eastern Europe, held in Moscow next week.
This is the first time that HCC has secured a stand at any trade show in Russia.
Red meat processors from Wales will travel to the international show with the aim of identifying new business opportunities for Welsh Lamb and developing leads that were created during Anuga in Germany last October.
“Russia is a key target market for HCC as it offers huge potential to the Welsh sheep industry”, said Deanna Leven, HCC’s Export Market Development Executive. “Now in its 21st year, the PRODEXPO exhibition will provide our processors with a fantastic platform to meet new clients and spread the word about the quality of Welsh Lamb.”
HCC chief executive, Gwyn Howells said: “A team of Russian inspectors witnessed the excellent conditions that exist on Welsh farms and processing plants in 2012.
“Since their visit, we have been pursuing all leads and opportunities in Russia including a high profile trade mission to Moscow in 2013. Our focus on this market will continue until Welsh Lamb is stocked on their shop shelves and in restaurants.
“The fact that both Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef have EC Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status will be of great assistance in our efforts to secure any deals.”
PRODEXPO will be held at the Expocentre Fairgrounds, Moscow between 10th-14th February. In 2013, the exhibition was attended by a record-breaking number of more than 2,200 exhibitors from 63 countries.
