On Thursday 9th September, the much-anticipated results of the Meat Management Industry Awards will be announced at a black-tie ceremony hosted by football legend Kevin Keegan OBE.
Following a very successful online broadcast last year, the Meat Management Industry Awards makes a welcome return to an in-person event at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel on 9th September.
Supermarket/Multiple Meat Retailer of the Year is one of the most sought-after awards of the evening. Recognising excellence in retail, the award is given each year to a seller that goes above and beyond to ensure their meat products are of the highest quality available to the customer.
Previous winners of the accolade include Aldi and Marks & Spencer.
2020 Winner: M&S
M&S has “a proud history of working with the farming community to provide the highest quality meat that its customers expect while minimising its impacts.” The retailer has won the award twice in recent years, with a win in 2018 and then again in 2020.
Last year, the awards judging team were won over by the company’s commitment to animal health and welfare, and its goal to ensure that all its meat is produced to the highest standard of food safety and quality by farms that are operating sustainably.
At the time of the award, head of product development at M&S, James Newton Brown said: “Our teams at M&S work relentlessly to ensure the quality of our meat surpasses other retailers and are continuously delivering innovation across our ranges. We are really proud of the wins we’ve received this year in the Meat Management Awards.”
2019 Winner: Aldi UK
Aldi opened its first supermarket in the UK in 1990, with the promise “to provide customers with outstanding quality products at unbeatable prices.” Our judges were impressed by the company’s passion about “backing British”, with three quarters of its sales generated from UK suppliers. In fact, as of 2019, 100% of its fresh everyday meat and poultry in the UK was from British, Red Tractor approved farms.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi, said at the time: “At Aldi we pride ourselves on providing our customers with high quality products at unbeatable prices.
“Awards such as this are a real testament to the quality that Aldi has to offer, and we are delighted to add another respected title to our trophy cabinet.”
