Organiser YPL Exhibitions & Events, which is staging the event for Meat Management, reports that already, most partners are on board to support the initiative and that there is great interest in this year’s voting and nomination programme, as well as the ceremony itself.

Emma Cash of YPL said: “We already have partners who have rebooked and others in the pipeline who are sponsoring categories, and once again the general reaction has surpassed our expectations. Although the dinner is not taking place until November we have received a number of requests for tables and tickets, with some actually booked already. It certainly looks like once again we will see a highly successful sell out event.”

M Lisa Hand 1

Lisa Hand won Meat Businesswomen of the Year.

Over 3,000 votes were received last year during the voting and nomination period, with Lisa Hand of Dunbia eventually taking the Meat Businesswoman of the Year Award. This year, the original 8 categories have been expanded with two more categories added - Training & Education and an Industry Supplier category.

Emma Cash explains: As with any new initiative, we listen to those involved and there was clearly an appetite to expand the coverage of the Awards into the training area and to also recognise excellence within industry suppliers. It is really positive to see the response and I am very confident that we shall experience an even bigger involvement by the industry in 2019, and stage a quality event that the industry and the women who work in it can be proud of.”

The 2019 Awards has also once again linked up with Ladies in Pigs (LIPs), an organisation that has an outstanding pedigree when it comes to supporting the pigmeat sector and the wider meat and farming industry. LIPs will be a sponsor of the initiative and is the first trade body to formally come on board in support this year.

Chairperson of LIPs Debbie Wilson said: “This is such a great idea and we are happy to support it. It was a great success last year. We already work with Meat Management magazine in relation to the judging process for the UK Sausage Week competition and therefore being a partner for the Women In Meat Industry Awards is a natural development for us.”
