Anticipation is mounting as the all-important 9th September date draws ever closer, when the UK meat industry gathers to celebrate this year's Meat Industry Awards at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.
The annual awards ceremony was presented online in 2020 due to Covid restrictions and as part of the temporary changes required, the Young Manager of the Year Award took a gap year, as did Britain’s Best Butcher's Shop Award. Both are back for the in-person ceremony in 2021 and organisers have now revealed this year’s Young Manager finalists ahead of the popular black-tie event, when the winner will be announced and the presentations made by footballing icon Kevin Keegan OBE.
The finalists are:
Callum Murray – Commercial Buyer Controller – Farmison & Co
Jade Brewer – Account Manager Grocery Retail & Manufacturing – Kepak Red Meat
Craig Henderson – Shop Manager Butchery – Walter Smith Fine Foods
Joanne Harpin – Technical Manager – Freeman Catering Butchers
Editor of Meat Management Jane Connolly commented: “This is always a really exciting category and it’s great to have the award back for the 2021 ceremony. We have four excellent finalists, but unfortunately only one can win. However, I can say that it will be a really close call and I do hope as many people as possible will attend the ceremony and dinner on 9th September. This dinner and ceremony really is the main annual industry event and not to be missed.”
Event organiser Sharon Yandell added: “There is a real buzz surrounding the meat awards this year and many people have commented how much they are looking forward to the industry’s biggest annual celebration and the networking opportunity it offers. As well as Young Manager and Britain’s Best Butcher's Shop awards, we have a variety of other important categories covering all parts of the meat industry, so there is a lot to celebrate.
“As we return to normal we have already exceeded the ticket sales that were expected and we all look forward to celebrating the best of the best this year – in person!”
