NFMFT president to appear on Countryfile

The National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT) president, John Mettrick, is set to appear on Countryfile on 25th February at 6.30pm.

The programme will be looking initially at the impact of illegal slaughter in the countryside.

Mettrick will be interviewed at his abattoir in Glossop, Derbyshire, where he will make the case for supporting small slaughterhouses and local craft butchers, and their work to maintain the sustainability of local food chains.

NFMFT has said it would welcome feedback on the programme and the issues in general, as small abattoir sustainability is high on the federation’s agenda.
Mettrick commented: “We intend to make the most of this opportunity and really drive home the arguments.”

Slaughtering representative William Lloyd Williams will also be discussing this very issue at a Food Standards Agency (FSA) meeting on 22nd February in London and will meet with FSA chief executive Jason Feeney soon.

All feedback should be sent to Richard Stevenson at richard@nfmft.co.uk, or Roger Kelsey at roger@nfmft.co.uk.
