UK Sausage Week 2019 competition judging underway

The first day’s judging for the search to find the UK’s best sausages is underway at The Regional Food Academy at Harper Adams University as the clock ticks down to this year’s UK Sausage Week (28th October to 3rd November).

Judging is now underway for the UKSW competition.

The two-day judging takes place under the watchful eye of ‘Sausageologist’ and head judge, Keith Fisher, together with Q Guild manager, Claire Holland and key members of Ladies in Pigs.

Readers may have heard Keith on Radio 1 interviewed for the Scott Mills Show.

The judges will be assessing the sausages in their raw and cooked state. The cooking is undertaken by professional home economists, according to the maker’s instructions at the purpose built test kitchens.

There are 14 categories in the competition including 8 regional winners in England, plus categories for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland too. There’s also supermarket, foodservice and own label manufacturers categories, as well as the coveted overall UK Supreme Sausage Champion.

Speaking at the start of the first day, head judge Fisher said: “We have a fantastic range of sausages this year and our judges will be evaluating hundreds of the best bangers in Britain. As always there is great innovation and our team do a brilliant job. The competition rewards participants across 14 categories and I know when the results are announced at the celebration lunch on 28th October it will be a great start to this year’s UK Sausage Week.”

The Awards presentations and ceremony will take place at the newly reopened Butchers’ Hall in London to kick start UK Sausage Week on Monday 28th October. To book your tickets or table click here.
