Abattoir fire calls for joint investigation

Lincolnshire Police has launched an investigation following a fire that broke out at an abattoir in Skegness.

Police and the fire services were called to the scene in Heath Road, Skegness at around 7:50pm on Friday the 24th February.

The abattoir is run by J&D Haworth Ltd and trades as Yorkshire Country Meats.

A joint fire and police investigation is underway in order to determine the cause of the blaze, which reportedly took more than 30 firefighters to tackle and is currently being treated as suspicious.

Locals who live within 400m of the facility were warned to stay indoors and ensure all their windows were shut.

Lincolnshire Police is appealing for any witnesses who may have any information or who may have seen suspicious activity in the area to contact Skegness CID by calling 101 and quoting incident number 409 of 25th February.
