Karro engineer receives Apprentice of the Year award

Karro Food Limited has welcomed engineer Matthew Archer to its on-site team during the same week he was presented with HETA’s ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award.

Matthew Archer, Karro’s new apprentice engineer and HETA ‘Apprentice of the Year’.

HETA, who provide specialist engineering training, chose Matthew for his enthusiasm and determination over the duration of his first year on the course.

Having already won ‘Apprentice of the Month’ in the past 12 months, Karro said that Matthew “has already made a great start to his apprenticeship and his career.”

The 17-year-old has started the next phase of his training by moving on site to complete the apprenticeship at the pork processor.

Karro’s apprenticeship is open to people of all ages, though the company is particularly interested in hearing from school leavers and younger people.

Matthew said that he was “absolutely over the moon” to have won the award. He added: “I’ve learnt a lot during my first year at HETA and now I’m looking forward to getting on-site at Karro and progressing further.”

Lauren Dineley, human resources business partner at Karro Food Limited, said that the company were pleased to welcome Mathew to the team. She continued: “He’s already proved what an asset he is going to be to our team, and we’re excited to continue to help him develop.

“Our apprenticeship programme is something we’re very proud of here at Karro. We believe the scheme offers young people a way to achieve industry recognised certification whilst also being able to work full-time and earn a great income.”
