Martin Bayfield began his career by serving with the Metropolitan Police between 1985 and 1989, before transferring to Bedfordshire Police where he juggled playing rugby and serving in the forces. In 1990, he made the transition into playing rugby full time.

At 6’10” Martin was one of the tallest rugby players of his generation, which he used to his full advantage as one of England’s forwards. Throughout his international career he won 31 England caps and two Five/Six Grand Slams from 1991 to 1996 and was selected to represent the British & Irish Lions in New Zealand in 1993.

Following his departure from professional rugby in 1998, he presented BBC1‘s ‘Crimewatch’, the ‘NFL‘, ‘World’s Strongest Man‘ and appeared as BBC Radio 5 Live‘s rugby correspondent. Currently, Martin is a pitch-side reporter across all major tournament fixtures for both the ‘Rugby World Cup‘ and ‘RBS/Guinness Six Nations’.

Martin served as the body and stunt double of half-giant Rubeus Hagrid, played by Robbie Coltrane, in the Harry Potter franchise. He also appeared on BBC One’sCelebrity MasterChef 2018‘, reaching the finals after continuously impressing John Torode and Gregg Wallace with his imaginative dishes and culinary knowledge.

Outside of presenting and starring in films and TV shows, Martin is actively involved with charities. He is the Honorary President of the Wooden Spoon Society, a rugby charity that supports disadvantaged children and young people, and is also the Vice President of London Playing Fields Foundation.
