Established in 1999, the Sutton Fields site in Hull has 950 employees and is home to its premium sliced cooked meats, slow cook meal centres and premium ready meals offer.

Cranswick operates from 23 production facilities in the UK and produces a variety of pork and poultry products for major UK grocery retailers.

According to HullLive, a letter sent to an employee of Cranswick stated: “We are also looking at reducing head count across other areas of the business with a proposed total of 100 people affected.

“Your position sits within a group of roles where we are proposing to reduce the total head count. This group is made up of slicer operatives on high risk nights and we are proposing to reduce this total head count from nine to five. We are also looking at reducing head count across other areas of the business with a proposed total of 100 people affected.”

A Cranswick spokesperson told BBC News: “We have unfortunately started a consultation process with colleagues whose roles are at risk of redundancy.

“We understand this is a very difficult time for all those involved and will work with them to identify other job opportunities at the other Cranswick sites in the area.”

Meat Management has approached Cranswick for comment but has yet to receive a response.
