As the forthcoming annual meat industry awards ceremony approaches, the finalists for the prestigious Excellence Award have been revealed, with the winner scheduled to be announced on the evening of 9th September.

Excellence Composite

(L-R) Dr Fiona Roberts, Rob Smith, Rachel Griffiths and Dr Phil Hadley.

The award goes to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the industry and the category has a long history of worthy winners.

Last year the accolade went to Norman Bagley, head of policy at the Association of Independent Meat Suppliers (AIMS), who said: “I am proud to have won the Meat Management Excellence Awards 2020 and to share this with my team and most of all to share it with AIMS members who deliver excellence every day….”

Finalists this year are:

Rachel Griffiths – joint managing director, Dalehead Foods

Dr Phil Hadley – international market director, AHDB

Rob Smith – UK market director, Danish Crown / Chairman PTF

Dr Fiona Roberts – technical supply analyst, Foods Connected

The presentations take place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole as part of a black-tie dinner, which this year is hosted by football supremo Kevin Keegan OBE. The Excellence Award is presented at the conclusion of the evening before guests mingle and network together, something that was sorely missed when the Awards went online in 2020 because of Covid restrictions.

Organisers report that ticket sales are strong, exceeding expectations, and that there is a very positive attitude prevailing amongst both the Award Partners who sponsor categories and the many guests scheduled to attend.
