Six students from Harper Adams University in Shropshire were recently awarded Butchers and Drovers Charitable Institution (BDCI) Award Scholarships at the annual scholarships presentation.
The BDCI Bursary is open to all first or second year BSc or FdSc students whose course of study has a direct relevance for a future career in the meat and livestock industry.
Preference is given for those candidates who have family or employment links with the meat and livestock industry, or who have an intention of seeking employment in the industry.
This year’s three successful candidates were joined by three from last year, each receiving a bursary of £5,000 for the remaining academic years of their full time study at Harper Adams University.
The winners of the BDCI Bursary Award were: Harriet Noble, BSc (Hons) Agriculture with Animal Science (2017); Susan O’Neill, BSc (Hons) Food and Consumer Studies (2017); Jessica Tomley, FdSc Agri-Business (2017); Gwesyn Davies, BSc (Hons) Agriculture (2016); Clare James, BSc (Hons) Agri-Business (2016); Sarah Ramsey, BSc (Hons) Food and Consumer Studies (2016).
Ted Hoefling, the treasurer of BDCI, attended the presentation.
He said: “I was honoured to be able to present these Bursary Awards on behalf of BDCI. BDCI is here to help in many ways, from those who may have fallen on hard times to encouraging and financially assisting young people who will be pursuing careers in the meat and livestock industry.
“These bright young students were all so appreciative of their awards, it means so much to them financially, it is wonderful for BDCI to be able to contribute in this way.”
