Hilton Foods has released an update on its Sustainable Protein Plan.

The Hilton Foods sustainability report offers an update on the producer’s progress across the three pillars of “People, Planet, and Product”. As the Group reaches the final year of its 2025 Sustainable Protein Plan, the report highlights the “achievements and milestones” reached, including its acceleration of net zero targets to 2048 and enhanced emissions reduction commitments.

Planning is now underway for the next phase of its Sustainable Protein Plan. Hilton Foods has said that it is applying three essential criteria: “alignment with the external landscape, transparent measurability, and robust governance”. Its Sustainability Committee will conduct a review to ensure the plan has clear, specific targets.

In a statement, the company listed notable points of progress so far, which include:

  • Hilton Foods attained an A score for Climate Change from the environmental disclosure platform, CDP, improved its Forests score to A-, and scored B for its first Water disclosure.
  • It is on track to achieve 100% renewable electricity in Europe by 2025 and globally by 2027.
  • It achieved 59% recyclability for plastic packaging, exceeded 50% recycled content targets, and reduced packaging weight by 1,000 tonnes.
  • 98% of its UK wild-caught seafood meets MSC standards or equivalent certification.
  • The company has completed SMETA ethical audits across all manufacturing sites.
  • It has reached 30% women in leadership, meeting the 2025 target ahead of schedule.
  • It has published a detailed Transition Plan focused on decarbonising its beef supply chains.

“We are proud of the progress we have made so far, but we recognise that there is much still to do.”

Lorna Schneider, Hilton Foods group chief quality and sustainability officer

Lorna Schneider, group chief quality and sustainability officer, commented: “The Sustainable Protein Plan has been at the heart of our operations and shows what can be achieved through strong partnerships and the dedication of our colleagues worldwide. This year’s report highlights the progress we’ve made in the final year of the plan, and we’re proud to be leading the way - from advancing climate commitments to delivering innovative solutions across the food chain - as we continue to push for even greater impact.

“We are proud of the progress we have made so far, but we recognise that there is much still to do. We want to build on the fundamentals we have in place to continue contributing to global change; applying the same level of rigour and commercial focus to our next phase, ensuring our targets are both ambitious yet actionable.”
