The Humane Slaughter Association (HSA) is inviting applications for its 2019 Humane Slaughter Award for significant advances in the humane treatment of farmed livestock during transport, marketing and slaughter.
HSA is an independent charity that works towards achieving high standards of welfare for food animals at markets, during transport and at slaughter through education, training, research and technical developments.
Its Humane Slaughter Award was established in 2010 to promote and recognise the important contributions and significant advances made in this field by individuals and organisations.
HSA states the award is open to individuals or organisations anywhere in the world whose work has resulted in significant advances in the the welfare of livestock such as cattle, sheep, pigs, other mammals, poultry or fish during transport, marketing and slaughter, or killing for disease control.
The winner will receive an award of £1,000 and a framed certificate.
Winners of the HSA Humane Slaughter Award in recent years include individuals and organisations from Sweden, the United Kingdom, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain and New Zealand.
The closing date for applications is Friday 7th December 2018.
