The Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) has highlighted the importance of agri-food careers to young people and showcased its work in the beef and sheep sectors.

The education team from LMC said it had visited careers fairs across Northern Ireland.
Emma Brownlee, LMC education and consumer promotions manager, commented: “Through attendance at careers fairs, LMC sparked meaningful conversations with students about the opportunities available within the agri-food sector. Many attendees stood at critical junctures in their educational journeys, and we were pleased to provide information on a range of pathways to future employment in the sector.”
Alongside promoting agri-food careers, LMC said that attending careers fairs enables it to “showcase the diverse portfolio of work it undertakes” on behalf of the beef and sheep sectors.
Brownlee continued: “Students demonstrated interest in the Commission’s work areas, with many actively asking about our placement opportunity offered to undergraduate students who are required to complete a sandwich placement part-way though their studies.
“This role is recruited annually, with placement students playing a key role in the delivery of LMC’s education programme and marketing activity.”
Across various careers fairs LMC distributed a range of educational and promotional resources, including the Northern Ireland Farm Quality Assured beef and lamb recipe books.
Brownlee concluded: “LMC has a longstanding relationship with the education sector and we are pleased to currently provide resources to support students from foundation level through to higher education.”
