Scottish butchery business Simon Howie has confirmed it will close its Auchterarder butcher shop after 34 years of trading.
The final day of trading for the shop will be Wednesday 23rd September 2026, with the business thanking its Auchterarder customers for their support over the years since it opened in 1992.
A statement posted on the Simon Howie website said that the business had seen customer shopping habits “change significantly” in recent years, making it increasingly difficult for the shop to remain commercially sustainable.
Simon Howie went on to confirm that every member of staff has been offered continued employment with the business, either at its Perth shop or at its factory in Dunning.
Owner Simon Howie commented: “I’m genuinely disappointed to close the shop in Auchterarder. I opened the shop because I wanted to serve the local community, and 34 years is a long time to be part of a town. We have customers who have been coming to us for generations, and I know this decision will be a real disappointment to many of them.
“But we also have a responsibility to our staff and to the future of the business. The shop has been in decline for some time and, despite everything the team has done, it is no longer commercially sustainable.
“We have therefore made the difficult decision to close it, while making sure that every member of the team has the opportunity to stay with Simon Howie, either at our Perth shop or at our factory in Dunning.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us in Auchterarder over the years. We aren’t saying goodbye to the community, and we hope we can continue to serve our Auchterarder customers from our Perth shop and through our home delivery service.”
