As UK Sausage Week has now concluded, we’ve taken a look at some of the highlights from the week, including innovative bangers, sausage competitions and even a sausage sandwich giveaway!
UK Sausage Week ran from Monday 28th October to Sunday 3rd November, with businesses across the nation taking to social media to share their sausage-themed activities.
We’ve rounded up some of the posts - take a look at what everyone has been up to!
Free sausage sarnies for Darlington businesses
Nigel Alderson, who runs Alderson’s Butchers in Darlington, has spent UK Sausage Week handing out over 100 free sausage sandwiches to local businesses! Recipients of the sarnies included Age Concern, White House Funeral Services, Wheelers Hardware Store, Darlington Memorial Hospital and Hays Travel Cockerton, as well as Thompson Wholesale Meat Ltd, Majors Barbers and Wilton House Care Home.
The sandwiches were given to local businesses that had been specially recommended by Alderson’s customers, and were hand-delivered by Nigel throughout the entirety of UK Sausage Week. Local customers have praised Nigel on Facebook, with comments commending him for his hard work and thoughtfulness.
Nigel told Meat Management that Alderson’s Butchers had a “fantastic sausage week”, with sausage sales up by over 125%!
We Hae Meat gives away sausage boxes
Scottish butchery business We Hae Meat celebrated the week by giving away five special boxes full of its sausage products. Customers submitted their favourite sausage flavours for a chance to win, and the five winners were:

- John Gunn

New flavour combinations for this year’s UK Sausage Week
The week saw some interesting flavour combinations created, including Thurston Butchers’ Chip Shop Curry Sauce Sausage!
The sausages are made using homemade scraps from Hendos Fish and Chips, and packed full of chip shop curry sauce.
Thurston Butchers’ customer Kim came up with the recipe as part of the shop’s UK Sausage Week celebrations, and the butchers said on social media that it would be getting Kim in to “make his own sausages very soon”.
Another notable product came from The Maybush in Waldringfield, which produced a Suffolk pork and Guinness sausage as a special UK Sausage Week menu item!
Fosse Meadows in North Kilworth highlighted its autumnal Lamb Merguez sausages, incorporating spices and grassfed lamb.
Drake & Macefield in Skipton created a pheasant and leek sausage to celebrate the start of game season, and revealed that a previous UK Sausage Week creation, its pork, smoked bacon and cheese sausage, had become a staple product in its store!
