Support for teachers as HCC links up with Countryside Classroom

As part of its programme of work to help children to learn about farming, food and the environment, Welsh red meat body Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) has linked up with UK-wide platform Countryside Classroom to make its learning resources more accessible.

Countryside Classroom helps teachers to find resources, places to visit and school support relating to the themes of food, farming and the natural environment, so that all children have the opportunity to learn about and experience these topics.

Its online platform hosts resources from dozens of partners, delivering a one-stop service for over 12,000 teachers.

HCC hasinvested in a new range of children’s resources suitable for ages 3-16, including lesson plans, recipes and activities. The materials are available on its own www.redmeathub.wales platform, and a selection will now be accessible via the Countryside Classroom, in both English and Welsh.

Elwen Roberts of HCC said: “Our work in education is important to HCC’s mission. Recently as well as preparing our new learning resources we’ve launched a cookbook with easy nutritious recipes to get children enthused about cooking, and we’ve hosted a special conference for secondary school food teachers.

“This partnership with Countryside Classroom will help widen the range of resources available to teachers, particularly in Wales. We’re proud to be working alongside other organisations to get children learning about where their food comes from, the importance of a balanced diet, and farming and the environment.”

Elizabeth Lake of Countryside Classroom said: “Countryside Classroom is proud to be collaborating with HCC and delighted that education professionals can now access a wide variety of resources in both Welsh and English languages,  that are perfect for helping children understand where red meat comes from, how it can be produced sustainably, as well as how to cook healthy, nutritious recipes.”
