UK Sausage Week competition deadline extended

With a very high level of entries this year, YPL Exhibitions & Events has decided to extend the deadline for nominating and entering sausages into the 2018 UK Sausage Week competition until 26th September.

Due to demand, the UK Sausage Week competition deadline has now been extended to 26th September.

The presentations of a variety of prestigious Awards will then take place at a lunch ceremony in London on Monday 29th October to kick start the annual week, which this year runs from Monday 29th October through to Sunday 4th November.

The original deadline for nominations was 10th September but due to demand this has now been extended to 26th September, with actual products being supplied on 2nd October for judging.

There are 14 categories available in the UK Sausage Week competition including 8 regional winners in England and, following expanded coverage last year, categories for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland too.

In addition the competition includes a supermarket category, and own label manufacturers category, as well as the coveted overall Supreme UK Sausage Champion, which last year was won by J C Rook & Sons.

Keith Fisher, the chief judge of the competition and CEO of the IoM commented: “I think I can speak for many in the trade when I say how pleased I am that UK Sausage Week is taking place and going from strength to strength. Sausages are so important to both our industry and to many millions of consumers and its great news for everyone.

“With retail sausage values at around £1.4billion the importance of this market sector cannot be overstated. We are all ready to go for judging the competitions at the Regional Food Academy and I also look forward to the celebratory lunch in October which will start UK Sausage Week off with a bang.”

“Winners will see a major boost to trade, ” says Emma Cash, “to enter is easy and free and as always you have to be in it to win it. We received well over 400 entries last year and hope for around 600 this year. The message is have a go. If you have great sausages make sure you nominate now.”
