VION UK is reported to be seeking a buyer for all its red meat and poultry businesses, which could impact on 11,500 jobs in the UK.

Rumours have been circulating for some time in the industry and last week Meat Management spoke to Rob Smith at Vion UK who said: “Vion does not comment on rumour or speculation.” However, the company did not deny that the company was pulling out of the UK. According to a Sunday Times report VION has posted losses of £37 million in the last year on a turnover of £1.1 billion.

According to The Sunday Times investment bank Rothschild has been hired to sell the UK red meat and poultry plants. It also reported that Sun European Partners and Endless, two investment groups, are currently considering offers. It is understood that the pork division may not be included.
