Dunbia and 2 Sisters in merger rumours

Rumours that meat processors Dunbia and 2 Sisters Food Group are set to merge are currently circulating in the industry.

dunbiasignage033aNorthern Irish beef, lamb and pork processing firm, Dunbia, has been up for sale since December last year. The company is one of Northern Ireland’s largest meat firms and the deal could involve part of or the whole business, which has locations across the UK and Ireland.

A spokesperson confirmed to Meat Management at the time: “We have received several serious expressions of interest from would-be investors over the past two years and we are now considering options for maximising the potential of the company going forward.”

However, reports have recently surfaced in the press that Dunbia could be merging with 2 Sisters, with anonymous sources claiming that the two companies are currently in discussions.

Over the past five years, 2 Sisters has purchased both Northern Foods (in 2011) and Vion’s UK red meat operation (in 2013).

A spokesperson for Dunbia told Meat Management that the company has no comment to make at this time.

A spokesperson for 2 Sisters added: “we can’t comment on market rumours or speculation”.
