The presence of listeria monocytogenes in food is known to cause possible flu like symptoms in those who consume it, therefore the decision has been made to recall this particular product.

In rare cases the effect of consuming listeria monocytogenes can be more severe, and is even believed to cause meningitis in some cases.

Some are more susceptible to have a reaction, including those over the age of 65, pregnant women and young children.

The company has warned those who have already purchased the products with the use by date of 21st February to not eat them and return them to the shop.

Morrisons will be putting notices up in its shops in order to further warn customers, and to make them aware of why the products have been recalled.

According to Morrisons, no other products are believed to be affected by the substance and are therefore deemed as safe to eat.
