The 2016 team of butchers representing Great Britain in the World Butchers’ Challenge have now been announced.
The six team members are as follows: Maurice Stephenson from Nigel Fredericks (captain), Tom Wood from Huntleys Country Stores (vice captain), Gary Raeburn from Forbes Raeburn, Damon Buckingham from Black Barn Butchers, Micheal Dufton from Knitsley Farm Shop and Gary Simpson from Simpsons Butchers.
The butchers, who have been dubbed the ‘British Beefeaters’, will represent their country in the World Butchers’ Challenge (previously known as the Tri Nations).
Teams of six from Australia, Britain and France (which is joining the competition for the first time) will compete against three-time world champions, the Pure South Sharp Blacks from New Zealand for this year’s title.
The teams will each have three hours to turn a side of beef, pork and a lamb into a first class butchery display. Each team is judged by a panel of expert industry judges on their preparation, presentation, finishing and display. The 2016 Study Tour will be held on Australia's Gold Coast from 5th September. The tour will conclude on 10th September with the World Butchery Challenge.
