The voting process to find all category finalists and the winners for this year’s Women in Meat Industry Awards (WIMIA) is in full swing and breaking all records.
Publisher of Meat Management magazine, Graham Yandell MBE, was enthusiastic about the interest shown, commenting: “Last year we received around 10,000 votes in total. This year, over the first four days since voting went live on 7th August, we received over 1,500 individual website visits who have voted for the candidates publicised on the shortlist, so all indications so far are that we are heading for another record year.
“There is also great interest in the awards ceremony which we have expanded again this year and moved the event venue to the 5-star Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. We are all looking forward to a very special evening on 17th November which I suspect may be the best yet.”
Voting for those on the shortlist concludes on Tuesday 29th August and the finalists will be publicised shortly afterwards when the votes have been counted and checked. To see this year’s voting shortlist click here.
Voting categories are as follows:
- Meat Businesswoman Award – Foodservice (Catering Butcher)
- Meat Businesswoman Award – Independent Retailing
- Meat Businesswoman Award – Multiple Retailing
- Meat Businesswoman Award – Manufacturing / Processing
- Meat Businesswoman Award – Craft Butchery
- Meat Businesswoman Award – Trade Body
- Meat Businesswoman Award – Wholesaling
- Meat Businesswoman Award – Poultry
- Meat Businesswoman Award – Training & Education
- Meat Businesswoman Award – Industry Supplier
- The Rising Star Award
The overall Meat Businesswoman of the Year Award will be chosen from one of the category winners excluding the stand-alone Rising Star Award category.
Yandell concluded: “In Coronation year we are looking forward to welcoming royal correspondent and broadcaster Jennie Bond, who will host the evening at the Royal Lancaster. We have worked with Jennie before and she has some great stories and anecdotes, and of course is a great success in her own profession. She is also the voice of the popular TV series Great British Menu so has a link with our own industry too.”
