The six butchers representing Great Britain at the World Butchers Challenge landed in Australia this weekend ahead of the competition taking place on 10th September in Queensland.
Nicknamed the ‘British Beefeaters’, the British team will compete against butchers from Australia, New Zealand and France for the title of Grand Champions.
They will have three hours to turn a side of pork, beef and a whole lamb into a retail display and will be judged on their preparation, knife skills, presentation, finishing and display.
The Institute of Meat has supported the team throughout their applications for the competition and has acted as an official advisor during their preparations.
Keith Fisher, CEO of the Institute of Meat, said: “They are extremely talented butchers who are at the very top of their game. They are already the ‘best of the best’ in Britain and I think they have every chance of proving that on a world-wide stage too.
“On behalf of The Institute of Meat I’d like to wish them every success.”
Team manager, Danny Upson, commented: “We as a team want our efforts to inspire young butchers throughout Britain to progress to the highest levels of their profession. Now that butchery has its own approved Trailblazer Apprenticeship I think the way is open for them to do just that.”
