The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) is looking to expand the presence of Methocel MX products in European meat.
Methocel MX solutions are used as thickeners in a number of food products and Dow has completed an expansion that will more than double the capacity for its Methocel MX food grade product line.
According to Dow, Methocel improves emulsion stability and enhances texture in products like sausages and hot dogs, as well as significantly improving bite, structure and binding in patties and burgers.
The US-based company says the line is becoming increasingly popular in the meat market and it sees Europe as a key growth area, confirming that there will be more activity here over the next year.
Michiel van Genugten, global marketing leader, food solutions, commented: “This investment, completed end of 2015 in our Stade Plant in Germany, is particularly critical to accompany the growth of the meat market in Europe. Satisfying the needs of the meat industry is at the core of our European growth and innovation strategy.”
