Employers, managers and meat business owners are invited to attend a webinar hosted by the Worshipful Company of Butchers (WCB) on 28th September, where they can find out more about the new development programme.
The webinar will take place on Monday, 28th September at 1pm and will provide details of how the new programme will work, outline the schedule of events and activities and provide an overview of the website and application process.
An introduction for employers
The meeting is designed for employers, managers and business owners looking to support the next generation of talent in their businesses and there will be an opportunity to ask questions and find out more about how the programme can benefit employees.
The Young Meat Professionals (YMP) Programme is a four-year structured development initiative that will focus on a different meat product each year. The programme will include industry visits, networking opportunities, webinars and mentoring to give participants practical insight, professional contacts and a stronger understanding of the sector.
Course structure
The YMP Programme will follow the meat supply chain, enabling participants to gain fast-tracked insight into the journey of meat from ‘gate to plate’, including rearing, processing and retail. In the first year, titled The Journey of a Steak, students will focus on beef, with years two to four following a similar structure and focusing on different products. Year one course components include:
Visits:
- Beef farm
- Cattle abattoir and cutting plant
- Packing site and/or distribution centre
- Retailer or restaurant
Webinars:
- Overview of the beef supply chain
- Official meat controls and food safety
- Policy development
- New product development
- Consumer insights
The formal launch of the programme will take place on the afternoon of Thursday, 22nd October, followed by the City Meat Lecture at Butchers’ Hall in London.
