Nominations for the Women in Meat Industry Awards are now closed and voting for the chosen finalists will open in July. According to organisers at Meat Management the 2020 campaign, as in previous years, has seen readers and the wider industry rise to the call for entries. Once the shortlist has been drawn up, voting will be online at womeninmeatawards.com and via meatmangement.com.The voting response in previous years has been tremendous with almost 7,000 votes cast in 2019 and, given the impact of the virus on every sector of the meat industry, organisers hope that will be maintained this time.
“The voting in past years has been nothing short of phenomenal and I sincerely hope that this year will be no different and, albeit in a very small way, present a positive story in defiance of the shadow cast by Covid-19 over all sectors of the meat industry."Graham Yandell, publisher of Meat Management magazine said: “A massive thank you goes out to everyone who took the time to send in their nominations for these Awards.“Despite the unique and challenging circumstances, we saw a great response for nominations with a swathe of entries coming in for truly remarkable and outstanding candidates. This initiative aims to recognise the immense and important role women play in this great industry, and we are looking forward to recognising and celebrating that later this year.“With the hospitality sector making a start at opening its doors in July we look forward to another successful Awards ceremony in November, but naturally we still continue to monitor Government guidelines and advice and will adapt accordingly – which of course takes some planning!“What I can reveal is that we have some brilliant nominations and there is no doubt that the high standards of previous years are set to be repeated once again in 2020.”Editor of Meat Management, Pam Brook, added: “The voting in past years has been nothing short of phenomenal and I sincerely hope that this year will be no different and, albeit in a very small way, present a positive story in defiance of the shadow cast by Covid-19 over all sectors of the meat industry. “In my view, key workers, management teams, suppliers, backroom staff right across the supply chain are all superheroes and this is a small way of giving back and saying thank you for all their hard work, positive and caring attitude. Exceptional times are looked straight in the eye by special people and the Women in Meat Industry Awards looks forward to acknowledging that.”
