Organisers of the popular UK Sausage Week promotion have confirmed that the 2022 event has been postponed, due to the ongoing impact of Covid-19 and continued market uncertainty.

The decision to defer again this year was reluctantly taken as prospects for the UK wide sausage competition and the pandemic’s direct effect on the UKSW celebration lunch, plus positive engagement with industry and consumers, are still unclear, the organisers said.

Graham Yandell, publisher of Meat Management magazine, commented: “It is very disappointing to postpone UK Sausage Week once again, but after a thorough review we decided that it was a sensible course of action. These promotions involve a lot of forward planning and investment and, as always, if we do something like UK Sausage Week we do it right and are totally focussed on delivering a quality event for participants.

“We do anticipate that we shall be running UK Sausage Week as usual in 2023 and have already started planning forward to look at how best to proceed and structure the week and the competition. There is a lot of support for UK Sausage Week and it will certainly remain in our portfolio of events and activities.”

Head judge of UKSW and the CEO of the Institute of Meat, Keith Fisher added: “In the circumstances and taking account of all factors the postponement is the right decision, but naturally it is also very disappointing. I know everyone involved will redouble their efforts to ensure that in 2023 we see UK Sausage Week regenerated, and I am confident it will return bigger and better than ever.”
