FSA completes review of animal welfare standards in slaughterhouses

The Food Standards Agency has completed a programme of unannounced inspections of all slaughterhouses in Britain, to ensure that the businesses are meeting their obligations on animal welfare standards and that FSA teams are checking their controls appropriately. Free Range Meats and First Choice Meats recently celebrated the Cumberland sausage at Muncaster Castle along with over 3,000 people. Gary McClure of Woodland Free Range Meats won the Favourite Butcher’s Sausage vote. EU rules force eAML2 change

New EU rules on country of origin labelling mean eAML2 (the electronic pig movement service) will have to change to accommodate the amendments. The rules will apply to all producers sending pigs to slaughter and the changes mean the origin of the pigs will have to be declared.
