At the conference, Leadsom revealed that the government wants to see a reduction in the unnecessary use of antibiotics in animals.

However, the government wants to reduce this without putting the health and welfare of animals at risk.

Leadsom reported that on a recent trip to meet Abi Reader, who was Wales’ Woman Farmer of the Year, on her dairy farm, she discovered that Reader had managed to reduce antibiotic use by around 40%, and has improved milk productivity as a result of careful investment to create a better equipped dairy parlour.

Leadsome explained at the conference that she wants the government to do the same when it comes to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
