Dawn Meats commended for efficient energy use
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has awarded Dawn Meats with its ISO 50001 certification for its development and implementation of an efficient energy use policy at its Dawn Cross Hands retail packing plant, in South Wales.

Dawn Cross Hands, which has an annual bill of close to £1 million, was found to have been in accordance with the ISO international standards, having reduced its refrigeration consumption by 6%.
The ISO 50001 certification provides a framework of requirements for organisations to develop a policy for a more efficient use of energy, while setting targets and using data to make decisions about energy use.
According to Dawn Meats, the plant developed, implemented and integrated an energy management system aimed specifically at refrigeration consumption, which makes up a “significant percentage of the total energy used at the site”.
UK operations director at the company, Ken Hallahan, said: “Dawn Meats views effective energy management as an essential strategic requirement of the business, so it is fitting that Dawn Cross Hands has achieved this certification.”
In addition, Michael Brophy of Certification Europe highlighted: “Being certified makes it clear that the organisation is committed to improving the operation and environmental efficiency of its Utilities and Energy.”
Following the ISO 50001 certification, the wider Dawn Group is planning to roll out the standard elsewhere in its network of plants.
