AHDB showcases British red meat at Canada expo

British beef, lamb and pork will be featured at the Restaurants Canada (RC) Show in Toronto from 8-10th April, according to the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).

Exporters joined AHDB in Canada to showcase Britain’s red meat.

The show, which AHDB said is expected to attract more than 22,000 visitors from Canada and around the world, will provide the opportunity to connect with key foodservice buyers, influencers and operators.

AHDB said it had highlighted opportunities for premium red meat products in Canada which are differentiated from domestic production. In 2023 the UK exported 2,097 tonnes of beef to Canada worth £10 million, 812 tonnes of pork worth £2.5 million and 619 tonnes of sheep meat worth £2.6 million.

Susana Morris, AHDB senior trade development manager, said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the RC Show again to shine a spotlight on quality beef, lamb and pork from Britain. Canada presents opportunities for premium red meat products from Britain and the show is the perfect stage for us to showcase this to the foodservice sector.

“Canadian consumers are increasingly interested in the origin of the food in their diets. They also have a relatively high disposable income to purchase high-quality products that our producers and processors are well placed to supply.

“Four exporters joined us in Mexico for Expo ANTAD which attracted a record 40,000 visitors and led to positive meetings during the show and off stand. With increasing pig meat consumption in Mexico, the long-term prospects for British pork in this market are encouraging.

“Similarly, AMC gave us the opportunity to showcase high quality British beef, lamb and pork as well as providing us and the four beef and lamp exporters that joined us valuable insight into market trends in the US that they can capitalise on.”
