Food supply chain expert Fowler Welch and poultry producer Bernard Matthews have extended their partnership.

The deal comes after the chicken and turkey specialist won a new supply contract with one of the UK’s largest retailers, leading to the creation of 400 jobs at its Great Witchingham site in Suffolk.

Jim Seymour, Spalding general manager at Fowler Welch said: “We have had a long-standing relationship with Bernard Matthews and have a deep understanding of the business and its supply chain needs.

“So, we were able to respond and adapt our existing arrangements to deliver the right solution to help them meet the requirements of this new and exciting contract.”

Clayton Kemp, head of warehousing and distribution at Bernard Matthews said, “Fowler Welch has offered us a high quality and reliable service for many years, regularly going above and beyond to maintain this standard.

“They manage our substantial Christmas peaks with no issue and are flexible in handling any late stock, which sets them apart from the competition. So, when our business grew, extending that relationship was a clear and easy decision.”

Nick Hay, Fowler Welch CEO added: “The recently completed £2 million investment programme to develop our temperature-controlled depot in Spalding, was a key factor in helping us secure this deal.”
