Love Lamb Week begins

Love Lamb Week begins today (Thursday 1st September), as the industry looks to highlight the on-going lamb promotional activity already taking place and stimulate demand for home-produced lamb when production is at its peak.

Love Lamb Week

Love Lamb Week begins today until 7th September.

The UK-wide collective push to raise the profile of lamb will see the National Sheep Association (NSA), AHDB Beef and Lamb, Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) and Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) encourage consumers to understand how versatile, tasty and easy it is to cook with lamb and also provide an insight into British sheep production systems.

NSA has been encouraging as many individuals as possible to get involved, whether it be hosting or supporting local and farm-based events or highlighting Love Lamb Week to local farm shops, butchers or pubs.

Activities in Scotland include Scotch Lamb taking centre stage at the Scotch Lamb Cookery Theatre at Dundee Food and Flower Festival from 2nd to 4th September.

In store promotional events are also taking place and recipe leaflets and other point of sale materials have been distributed to members of the Scotch Butchers Club ahead of the week.

HCC is offering free downloadable resources to promote events and generate local press coverage during the week and is calling on producers, butchers, chefs and consumers to spread the work about Welsh Lamb.

Meanwhile, alongside the start of Love Lamb Week, AHDB Beef and Lamb will begin its lamb keema campaign, involving PR and social media activity as well as on-pack labelling. The campaign aims to introduce consumers to lamb mince in the form of versatile keema as an easy, low-cost route in to eating lamb.

Those in the industry can get involved by promoting Love Lamb Week in their local area or joining in the conversation on social media using the hashtag #LoveLambWeek and #Love Lamb.
