Mark Elliott appointed new CIEH president

The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) has announced the appointment of Mark Elliott as its new president.

Mark Elliott, CIEH president.

Mark Elliott CEnvH FCIEH, an environmental health practitioner, has served in various senior positions within the environmental health sector. His career includes leadership roles in local Government, private sector engagements and contributions to environmental health education and policy development.

As president, Elliott will work closely with the board of trustees and CIEH’s executive management team to help steer the strategic direction of the trade body, as well as advocate for both the profession and for CIEH. His tenure commences in January, succeeding Julie Barratt.

Mark Elliott, incoming CIEH president, said: “Assuming the presidency of CIEH is a profound honour and a responsibility I accept with deep commitment. I follow a distinguished list of CIEH past-presidents, not least my immediate predecessor, Julie Barratt, whom I want to thank for all her hard work as president over the past three years.

“In our ever-evolving world, the role of environmental health professionals remains critical. That is why the theme of the president’s Commission during my tenure will focus on one of the key issues affecting the profession today: environmental health capacity and capability.

“I look forward to working with the chair, chief executive, CIEH personnel and the board in advancing this issue and reporting on this to members over the next three years.”

Judith Hedgley, chair of the CIEH Board of Trustees, stated: “Mark’s appointment is a testament to his exceptional expertise and dedication to environmental health. We are confident that during his tenure, CIEH will continue to excel in its mission to uphold and advance the standards of environmental health practice.

“The theme of Mark’s president’s commission, focusing on environmental health capacity and capability, couldn’t be more timely given the Board have agreed this as a strategic priority for CIEH as we go into 2024.

“On behalf of myself and other trustee board members, we look forward to working alongside Mark to advance this crucial issue.”
