Mini-roast takes centre stage during Great British Beef Week

The focus at this year’s Great British Beef Week (taking place this week) is the mini-roast, and Ladies in Beef (LIB) and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I) are working hard to champion Red Tractor Assured British beef.

Ladies in Beef (LIB) is teaming up with R.A.B.I to stage a host of charity events to celebrate Great British Beef Week.

Ladies in Beef are a group of more than 150 female beef producers and butchers, who come together each year to channel their passion for Red Tractor Assured British beef and celebrate the taste, nutritional benefits and versatility of the UK’s favourite red meat.

Great British Beef Week will continue until 1st May and offers many opportunities for butchers and the wider meat industry.

A 2016 survey with independent butchers reported a 10% sales uplift during the week. The week also inspired high levels of interest from several major retailers as well as several restaurants including Gordan Ramsey and Jamie Oliver restaurants.

The organisers have emphasised that the week is packed with promotional opportunities, with the focus this year on the mini-roast, using a combination of events and the help of social media and digital activity to promote mini-roast recipes.

Georgina Davie, a Devon farmer and keen member of Haldon Tug of War team, who successfully represented England in international competitions last year, said: “I am really proud to champion Red Tractor Assured British beef and hope that everyone will tuck into a succulent mini-roast and back our British beef producers.

“It’s so easy to cook and packed with protein, iron, minerals and vitamins. As a sportswoman relying on physical strength and fitness, British beef is a really important part of my training diet – and as a young farmer, I am just as passionate about the food we produce for the table as winning trophies!”
