The meat industry gathered at the Farmers Club in London on 28th September to celebrate the work of true industry stalwart, Keith Fisher.

Keith Fisher served AHDB for over 40 years.

The lunch and drinks reception was hosted by AHDB Pork to mark Keith’s 40 plus years of service to the levy body.

Keith announced he was retiring from his role as master butcher advisor with AHDB Pork earlier this year. He will remain heavily involved in the meat industry, however, through his position as chief executive of the Institute of Meat.

AHDB Pork chairman Meryl Ward addressed guests and commented on Keith’s “passion, professionalism and progression”.

She said: “Although Keith has retired now officially, his wisdom and experience will be drawn upon for many years to come.”

Keith said: "Almost every person in this room has had an impact on my career in one way or another. It's been a great time."

Keith is a fourth generation butcher and one of only 26 people in the country to hold the title of Institute of Meat Accredited Master Butcher.

Keith has devoted his career to the development of the meat industry and his work has spanned all sectors, from the buying of animals to the processing of carcases.

Keith trained at London’s Smithfield College and Market. Since 1974, when he joined what was then The Meat and Livestock Commission, he has been responsible for developing and popularising many cuts consumers would recognise on menus and on shelf today.

Keith is a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Butchers and also holds integral roles in creating and judging butchery and meat products competitions. He continues to hold the position of chief judge for the Meat Management Industry Awards.

Keith thanked AHDB Pork for arranging the lunch and also thanked guests for their support over the years.

Speaking at the event, he said: “Almost every person in this room has had an impact on my career in one way or another. It’s been a great time. Thank you to AHDB Pork for arranging today and thanks to all of you here for your support.”
