Norwich butchers target of meat theft
Archer’s Butchers in Norwich was the target of a theft in which nearly £2,000 worth of meat was stolen.
In total 160 packs of burgers, 60 packs of bacon, eight turkey butterflies and nine sets of ribs were taken from the shop, said to be worth approximately £1,800.
Speaking to the Eastern Daily Press, current owner James Archer said: “They gained access into our yard where we have a walk-in fridge and freezer.
“It was stuff that’s easy to get rid of, all packed ready.
“They knew what they were doing because they covered their shoes with socks and were wearing balaclavas.”
Archer believes that more than one person was involved in the theft due to the amount taken, however only one has been captured on camera as the CCTV cameras surrounding the butchers were also covered.
“The trouble is a lot of it is hard to replace, everything we make comes in as a full animal,” Archer said.
“It’s hard enough running a business, I just want to get this sorted. Hopefully they get caught, because it’s not just me this has affected, it’s my family and my staff too.”
The family business was first established by John Archer in 1929 and is now in its third generation.
