Scottish exporters prepare for major meat showcase event

Scotland’s red meat exporters will be flying the flag for Scotch Beef PGI and Scotch Lamb PGI in Paris next week at SIAL – one of the world’s largest and most influential food fairs.

Nine Scottish exporters are attending the event (October 19 – 23) where Quality Meat Scotland’s stand will highlight the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status of Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb and the guarantees of quality assurance, provenance and welfare that underpin the brands.

The trade-only show attracts around 150,000 visitors and around 6,300 exhibitors from 100 countries over its five days and is generally accepted as the place to meet many of Europe’s most important buyers.

Exporters will be joined by QMS staff and European agents to promote the Scottish red meat industry to buyers and traders from across the globe. A group of hospitality students from Fife College will also attend the event as part of an initiative supported by QMS.

QMS head of marketing Laurent Vernet said: “All the world’s meat exporting nations will be attending SIAL next week.

“It is therefore extremely important that Scotland’s exporters have a strong presence at the show, highlighting and explaining what makes Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb different and desirable to customers.

“The Scotch brands and PGI label already enjoy strong trade awareness on the continent. SIAL gives us the opportunity to continue to grow that awareness as well as offering exporters a great opportunity to build business.”
