Editor clothed as a liveryman of Worshipful Company of Butchers

Meat Management editor Emily Ansell Elfer received the honour of being clothed as a liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Butchers (WCB) at the company’s February court meeting.

Emily Ansell Elfer was clothed as a liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Butchers on 1st February.

Emily was proposed for the livery company by Meat Management publisher Graham Yandell, a fellow liveryman, and her application was seconded by WCB court assistant Bill Jermey, chairman of The Institute of Meat and chief executive of the Food & Drink Training & Education Council.

Taking wine with Emily at the court lunch following her clothing, at Carpenters’ Hall, London, WCB Master Geoff Gillo said: “I am delighted to welcome Emily as a liveryman of this proud and ancient company. Emily has already shown great support and knowledge of the company and I hope she will continue her involvement over the years to come.”

Graham added: “I am delighted to welcome Emily to the WCB as a new liveryman. As a liveryman myself since 1988 I know first-hand that the WCB is at the heart of our industry and does so much for charity, education and fellowship. As editor of Meat Management magazine I am confident that Emily will play an active part in the affairs of the company over the years to come.”

Emily said: “I am delighted to have been clothed as a liveryman of WCB. It is a proud and active company with almost all liverymen being connected to the industry. As editor of the UK’s only regular meat publication, I am keen to support the livery and its values – charity, fellowship and education – and by becoming a full part of the company I am now ideally placed to do so. I also look forward to socialising with like-minded individuals and upholding the traditions of the City of London. I am very grateful to Graham, Bill and the WCB Court for welcoming me.”
