England’s Best Burger Challenge finalists announced
The search to find ‘England’s Best Burger 2014’ is hotting up with 30 burgers through to the competition final.
Despite a record breaking number of entries in this year’s ‘England’s Best Burger Challenge’ competition, only 23 companies submitted burgers which were deemed worthy of a gold award and an automatic place in the final.
Silver awards went to a further 44 burgers and 75 entries achieved bronze, with only those that scored between 95-100 points were judged to be of a sufficient standard to be in the running for the title of ‘England’s Best’.
In the final round of judging, which takes place on Wednesday 30 April, all the gold standard burgers will be subjected to further rigorous testing, after which overall winners will be determined in each of the four categories: ‘Independent Butcher’, ‘Multiple Retailer’, ‘Foodservice’ and ‘Premium Quality Innovative Burgers’.
Hugh Judd, foodservice project manager for EBLEX, said: “We’ve had some really interesting entries in this year’s competition; with burger manufacturers across all the categories really upping their game, presumably in response to the massive upsurge in the premium burger market.
“We were delighted to have such a huge number of entries in the first round and it’s fantastic that so many of them achieved silver and bronze awards and the burgers that achieved gold really stood out from the rest. It means the final will be incredibly tough to judge, with the overall category winners will definitely deserve the title ‘England’s Best’.”
