Compassion’s Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards to recognise food service and manufacturing sectors

Compassion in World Farming’s Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards will this year present two new awards to recognise outstanding projects by manufacturing and food service companies.

Applications are now open for entries into the Best Innovation Award 2016 and the Best Marketing Award 2016.

The winner of the Best Innovation Award will have developed a successful project that has positively impacted farm animal welfare in a significant way. The project may have overcome a specific welfare challenge within current farming practice or have focused on developing a new system altogether. In addition, it will demonstrate commercial success and the potential to scale and have already been implemented in practice.

The winner of the Best Marketing Award will have delivered a marketing campaign that showed real impact, communicated a key farm animal welfare issue or promoted higher welfare products, reached a wide audience and was conducted over a significant time period and had a specific outcome.

Jemima Jewell, head of food business at Compassion, commented: “There’s some hugely exciting work on farm animal welfare going on in both the food service and manufacturing sectors, and we’re looking forward to celebrating the cream of the crop. Finding innovative solutions to welfare challenges, and engaging customers on the issue of farm animal welfare, are both crucial in driving industry-wide change. These awards will recognise those who are leading the way.”

Through the Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards, Compassion recognises market leading food companies for their current policies or commitments that result in positive impacts on farm animal welfare across their supply chains. The charity’s Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards for 2016 will take place in Berlin, on 28th June.
